The Indian River School painters were students or close artistic compatriots of Backus. Highly regarded for the skill and quality of their artwork, their beautiful paintings, primarily of Florida landscapes, have continued to increase in value. Many consider these artists to embody the "Backus School" of painting as their work so clearly reflects the technique and style of A.E. Backus.

The Indian River School painters whose work is handled within the museum's consignment program include: Don D. Brown, James Hutchinson, Therese Knowles, Margaret Z. Smith, Julie Enders, Annie Nobles Miller, Jackie Schindehette and Jackie Brice. We also handle the work of the Highwaymen whose work is exhibited in a separate section of this website.

The Backus Museum accepts "Indian River School" paintings on consignment. As a seller's agent we represent and protect the interests of the seller. In exchange of our services we accept a 20% commission of the final negotiated selling price.

If you are interested in purchasing a painting, having your Backus appraised or selling your painting through the museum's consignment program, please contact the museum at info@backusmuseum.com or call 772-465-0630 for more information.
